Singapore announces Circuit Breaker to curb COVID-19 spread

The government’s key measure to minimise the spread of SARS-CoV-2 saw most businesses, except essential services, adopting a work-from-home model. Schools shifted to home-based learning.

All social gatherings were banned, except for visiting elderly relatives needing assistance.

At Duke-NUS, work shifted to home for a majority. Among the exceptions: the teams pursuing COVID-19-related laboratory research. But even they had to pare down their numbers, running their studies with a skeleton crew.

The Circuit Breaker was scheduled to end on 4 May 2020.
