Welcome to the CSCB Programme!

Director’s Message

David M Virshup

Welcome to the website of The Program in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology. (CSCB). CSCB is one of five founding Signature Research Programs of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. Our Program recruited its first faculty members in 2006, and we moved to the spectacular Khoo Teck Puat (KTP) building in 2009. The Program in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology is an essential component of Duke-NUS. We engage in world-class research and training for scientists on both the PhD and MD/PhD tracks.

The CSCB core faculty consists of eleven tenure track faculty, of whom nine have primary labs in KTP. The impact of the Program in Cancer and Stem Cell Biology is greatly enhanced by our diverse collaborative networks. We have a close relationship with researchers at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and the Department of Haematology on the Outram Campus of SingHealth. Our faculty work closely with researchers and clinicians throughout Singapore, most notably with the Cancer Science Institute at the National University Hospital and A*STaR laboratories at Biopolis. Several faculty have major ongoing projects with the Experimental Therapeutics Centre, whose mission is to develop new drugs.

CSCB has a broad scope of research. Our faculty engages in hypothesis-driven basic science and disease-oriented investigation, as well as active drug discovery and innovative clinical trials. We are committed to translation of key findings, and our faculty has moved basic science discoveries from bench to bedside, with clinical trials in gastric cancer, lung cancer and leukemia driven by discoveries made by CSCB scientists.

We welcome your interest, and we encourage you to learn more about the research and training opportunities offered by our program.
