Student Affairs is committed to supporting your professional success, and your health and happiness during your years at Duke-NUS.

It is well recognized that to be a healthy and well-balanced medical student and professional you must invest in both your professional development and your personal wellness. At the same time, there is no denying that medical school is a demanding time of life and school consumes the majority of student time and energy. For these reasons, we encourage you to find ways to continue to engage in activities that are important to your health, happiness and overall success. Everyone can use support now and then. If you experience times when the types and amounts of stress exceed your ability to cope effectively, reach out to Student Affairs to direct you to support services. We can help you find the appropriate services to help you cope with stress, anxiety, depression or other personal life issues interfering with your personal wellness and professional performance.

Giving back is good medicine

Did you know that when you do something for others, like an act of kindness, that it actually improves your well-being?  A study by Martin Seligman, the Father of Positive Psychology, found that a person's mood was boosted for an 8 week period after an act of kindness for another. Enjoy this added bonus the next time you volunteer for one of the DNUS charities or in your community, engage in an act of kindness, or simply smile at someone.
