Dr Tan Ying PEH
Consultant (Palliative Medicine)
Brief Biography:
Dr Peh Tan Ying is a Palliative Medicine Consultant and Education Lead in the Division of Supportive and Palliative Care, National Cancer Centre Singapore. Besides her passion for her work in palliative care, Dr Peh has a special interest in medical education and is currently pursuing her Master in Health Professions Education Singapore (MHPE-S) with Maastricht University. She sits on the Joint Committee for Specialist Training (JCST) Exit Exam Committee for Palliative Medicine Advanced Specialist Training, and concurrently holds the positions of Assistant Programme Director of the Graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine, National University of Singapore and Course Lead for the Ngee Ann Specialist Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing. She is the Honorary Secretary of the Chapter of Palliative Medicine Physicians, Academy of Medicine Singapore and the Co-Chairperson of the Singapore Hospice Council Community Engagement and Communication Steering Committee Healthcare Workgroup.
Dr Peh is heavily involved in undergraduate and postgraduate palliative care education and training of healthcare professionals, including medical, nursing and allied health professionals. As the Education Consultant in the Lien Centre for Palliative Care (LCPC), she plays an instrumental role in the development, implementation and evaluation of the various LCPC educational programmes, including palliative care courses for doctors, nurses, social workers, pharmacists and therapists.
Dr Peh also has a keen interest in education research. She was awarded the Academic Medicine Education Institute (AM•EI) Education Grant 2018 for a mixed methods multi-site study on the role of reflective writing in developing empathy in medical students. She is the Principal Investigator of other education research studies including a phenomenological study exploring medical students’ understanding and development of empathy and a thematic analysis of residents’ reflective narratives from their Palliative Medicine posting.
