Brief Biography:

Dr Semra Ozdemir is an Assistant Professor at Lien Centre for Palliative Care and Signature Program in Health Services and Systems Research. She obtained her PhD from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr Ozdemir’s main research areas are medical decision making and health economics. Her research focuses on understanding preferences for treatments, health services and new health technologies, and developing interventions to help individuals make informed medical decisions. She is also interested in understanding the decision making process between patients, family caregivers and physicians, especially in decisions related to advanced serious illnesses. She has developed numerous discrete-choice experiment survey instruments in a variety of therapeutic areas, including cancer, chronic kidney disease, eye diseases, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis and bipolar disorder. Her research has been published in both economics and medical journals, including the Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, Social Science and Medicine, Value in Health, Risk Analysis, Gastroenterology, and Medical Care.
