Welcome to the Palliative Care Course for Social Workers (Basic)!
This is a 16-session basic certificate course carried out over a duration of 4 months, designed especially for social workers across all settings. This course will cover the foundational principles and practice of palliative care. The trainers in this course range from experienced social workers to doctors and nurses who practice palliative care in Singapore. They will cover a comprehensive range of palliative care topics relevant for social workers. The content is presented through interactive lectures, discussions and role play activities. The aim is to build professional competency and confidence in participants by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and basic skills to work with clients and families facing life-threatening illnesses.
This is a blended learning course where participants will be able to access mini-presentations, assessments, video clips and other resources via the Duke-NUS Learning Management System. The online self-study will be supplemented with a weekly interactive face-to-face session over 4 months. During this course, participants will have the opportunity to visit two different agencies and a funeral parlor. This enables experiential learning in authentic situations where palliative care is practiced locally.
