Dr Fung is the Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Mental Health and a Senior Consultant with the Department of Developmental Psychiatry. He is also Programme Director of the Ministry of Health’s Community Mental Health Team for children and adolescents (REACH). He was the President of the Singapore Association for Mental Health (2009-2016) and has sat on various boards of Voluntary Welfare Organisations/ NGOs and has been on the school board of Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School since 2004. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He teaches medical students from all 3 medical schools in Singapore. Dr Fung has also been involved in several large scale research studies on children and adolescents. Dr Fung is the President of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) (2018-2022) and was Secretary General between 2010-2014 and past President of the Asian Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professionals (2008 to 2010). He has a special interest in digital health, emotional disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders (including learning disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
Dr Fung’s research interest is in anxiety and disruptive behaviour disorders and the relationship with learning disorders. He is currently working on several projects involving neurophysiological and psychological interventions in neurobehavioral disorders.
He was involved in a longitudinal cohort study on the epidemiology of video games and gaming and its relationship to psychiatric disorders. He is part of an International Collaborative DEPRESSD Project and has been looking into the screening of depression across childhood psychiatric diagnosis. Dr Fung is also on the Editorial Board of Journal of the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (since 2019) and Frontiers Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (since 2020)
