neuroscientists
The Neuroscience and Behavioural
Disorders (NBD) Programme at Duke-NUS Medical school, Singapore brings together
a multidisciplinary community of scientists and clinicians dedicated to
understanding the nervous system and the mechanisms underlying brain function
and behaviour. Our faculty investigate neural development, circuit function,
cognition, and behaviour across diverse model systems including fruit flies,
mouse models, human brain organoids, and human subjects. Our research focuses
on the biological mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric
disorders, including autism and intellectual disability, as well as brain ageing
and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
A
major strength of the programme is our close collaboration with clinical
colleagues at leading local hospitals and research institutions, including the
National Neuroscience Institute, KK Women and Children’s Hospital, and the
Institute of Mental Health. These partnerships provide a strong foundation for
research into neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions, and enable us to
translate discoveries from basic science into clinical applications. By
bringing together basic neuroscience, human studies and clinical expertise, we
aim to uncover the mechanisms that shape the developing and ageing brain,
advance our understanding of brain disorders, and translate fundamental
discoveries into new approaches for diagnosis and treatment.
