Working here has been genuinely transformative. I have had the privilege of collaborating with a multinational and multicultural team that embraces diverse perspectives, while engaging with students, faculty, and our neighbouring SingHealth practitioners. The mentorship I have received as an early-career public health professional has been invaluable and has broadened the way I think.

I have also been able to pursue my interests in mental health, from coordinating the Mental Health Innovation Network Asia Hub to serving as a trainer in the NUS Peer Staff Supporter programme, as well as contributing to suicide prevention research and advocacy with SG Mental Health Matters and Project Hayat. Global mental health remains a less-charted territory in the region, and it has been incredibly exciting to navigate this work with the team.

Duke-NUS has a very entrepreneurial and collegiate culture that makes it easy for anyone to fit in. Being small also helps foster connections across a wide network.

The Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship has consistently supported my efforts to upgrade my skills, and their support has enabled me to complete a Master’s Degree from Europe’s premier Intellectual Property Institute and successfully tackle the Singapore Patent Attorney Qualifying Exams.

One recent highlight has been teaching students intellectual property and licensing in the Commercialisation & Entrepreneurship Certificate (CEC) course.

Duke-NUS has been receptive to learning and it has been a pleasure cultivating an IP culture within the school.

What draws me to Duke-NUS Medical School is the freedom to explore innovative ideas, take on challenges, and learn in a safe, trusting environment. I am continually inspired by my talented and fun colleagues, and by the diverse people I work with — from students and early-career researchers to faculty.

It is deeply meaningful to be part of the health professions educator community, knowing that the people I interact with each day are shaping patient care. Through my work facilitating career and professional development across the academic community as an educator and coach, I continue to build new skills and perspectives while shaping my identity as a reflective educator.

I am grateful to play a part — big and small — in empowering people in Singapore and across the region.

Working at Duke-NUS Medical School has been highly rewarding for my development in dengue research and molecular virology. I value the collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment, where discussions and mentorship continually challenge and refine my scientific thinking.

I feel well supported through access to advanced facilities and guidance from experienced researchers. Being involved in projects on dengue virus biology and host–virus interactions has strengthened both my technical and analytical skills.

One particularly meaningful experience has been contributing to studies that aim to better understand viral pathogenesis, with potential impact on public health.

I am grateful for the opportunities Duke-NUS has provided, which have shaped both my professional journey and personal growth. With partial sponsorship, I pursued a Master’s Degree and subsequently a PhD in Health Professions Education at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, USA — an experience that broadened my perspective and sense of purpose.

I feel valued through strong support in upskilling and reskilling, which enabled my transition from the Executive & Professional scheme to the Faculty  scheme. This has also allowed me to publish in refereed journals and pursue research grants.

I am thankful to the school for providing opportunities to build research collaborations with faculty from world-class institutions, including Duke University, National University of Singapore, and Singapore General Hospital.

Having been with Duke-NUS Medical School since November 2021, I have greatly valued the continuous opportunities for both professional and personal growth.

A significant milestone in my journey was being identified to transition from Academic Programmes Support and Evaluation, where I managed complex grant governance and programme development, to leading the Academic Talent Development and Support team. This shift from a focus on review and evaluation to talent development has allowed me to broaden my expertise, while feeling fully supported by a collaborative culture of mentorship.

It is incredibly rewarding to contribute to initiatives that support Clinician Researchers in the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre. This environment, which values versatility and actively invests in its staff’s potential, has made my experience here over the past four years deeply fulfilling.

I joined Duke-NUS in 2017 as part of the IT team, and over the years, it is the people who have made the biggest difference. There is a strong sense of teamwork — whether we are solving technical challenges or supporting school-wide initiatives, everyone collaborates with mutual respect. I value how approachable my colleagues and leaders are, and how open the environment is to new ideas.

I have always felt trusted to take ownership of my work, supported through challenges, and genuinely valued as part of a community that truly believes in its mission.
