Introduced in 2013, the prestigious Dean’s Excellence Awards accord recognition to passionate staff who espouse the school’s values, make significant impact within and beyond the school, seek continuous improvement in their personal best and considered a role model for all. 

Award Categories and Criteria 

There are four award categories and their criteria are: 

(1) Excellence in Administration

  • Made significant contributions either as a leader or in his/her professional areas of work.
  • Innovative in creating ways to improve efficiency and productivity in their respective function within and outside the School.

(2) Excellence in Education

  • Excelled in engaging and inspiring students in their journey of academic pursuit.
  • Recognised in advancing new teaching methodologies, effecting new curriculum development or making a significant contribution to the educational mission of the School.

(3) Excellence in Research

  • Made outstanding contributions to research & development that leads to results in new discoveries or secured significant amount of grants.
  • Played a strategic role in the research & development beyond the School.

(4) Excellence in Leadership (category introduced in 2018)

  • Inspired and influenced others to deliver impactful results through his/her knowledge and experience.
  • Displayed visionary foresight and made tough decisions for the benefit of the team and school.
  • Balanced realism with optimism by setting challenging but realistic goals to champion a vision or cause.

Yuxuan played an essential role in ensuring operational excellence in faculty affairs, grants administration, contract management, and strategic reporting. She consistently implemented practical strategies to enhance administrative efficiency via knowledge sharing, structured communication, centralized documentation and cross-Institutional coordination. Yuxuan’s strategic thinking, exemplary leadership and practical solutions significantly advanced Duke-NUS’ mission and operational excellence.

A strong advocate in developing our educators, building on their education portfolios and recognising their efforts and contribution to education, Dr Ong was conferred the Duke-NUS Master Academic Clinicians Awards in 2024. She also introduced an Oral Health Education module in the Duke-NUS CARE 4.3 curriculum programme for final year Duke-NUS medical students since 2020; securing three programme grants amounting to more than $100,000 for education initiatives.

Dr Goh is a visionary academic leader whose values-driven leadership, strategic foresight, and influence on oral health advancing Duke-NUS’ mission in Academic Medicine. She strategically aligned ORH ACP’s education, research, and clinical priorities, forging international collaborations, elevating institutional reputation and cross-border knowledge exchange. She also scaled ORH ACP’s academic output, grew its research talent pipeline, and promoted interdisciplinary collaboration.

Assoc Prof Liu Nan made groundbreaking research that has reshaped ethical and responsible AI implementation and oversight in healthcare. His research successfully led to the development and clinical adoption of AI tools and the founding of two startup companies, directly benefiting SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and broader community, recognizing him among the World’s Top 2% of Scientists.
