Ximena Terra graduated with a Bachelor in Biochemsitry and a PhD in Molecular Biochemistry from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Spain. Since 2013, she has been a Lecturer in Molecular Nutrition and a senior researcher within the MoBioFood Research Group at URV.  Her research is focused on the modulation of the metabolic and inflammatory response by bioactive food components in the context of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and ageing. 

During her postdoctoral studies, she performed translational studies, combining clinical and basic research where she developed a broad skillset in humans and pre-clinical models. 

Ximena has published three book chapters, more than 60 research papers (40% as first, last or corresponding author) and two patents. She has participated in more than 50 national and international meetings.  Access the full publication list via ORCID ( or ResearchGate ( 

As a Lecturer in Molecular Nutrition, she has a 10-year degree and master teaching experience in the URV, including supervision of master and PhD students. 

Ximena has recently joined Jacques Behmoaras' group in the Centre for Computational Biology, Program in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders, Duke-NUS, to explore the effects of a flavonoid extract on macrophage function in ageing and metabolic disease, and to lead on translational research on this topic.
