Graduate Certificate

Program Description

The Graduate Certificate in International Translational Medicine (GC-ITM) offers a flexible, stackable pathway into translational medicine education. The program consists of 4 courses with a total of 16 units. Applicants may choose to enrol in individual courses without committing to the full Graduate Certificate, allowing flexibility to tailor learning according to professional interests and schedules. Completion of the GC-ITM is required for progression into the Master of International Translational Medicine (MITM) program.

Do Join us on 16 July for a virtual talk about the programme.

Core Courses

GMS5807

Eureka Institute’s Monsoon Certificate Course

This course offers a comprehensive overview of the translational medicine landscape, emphasizing the interplay among various stakeholders. Students will participate in personal and professional development activities to become adept leaders in TM. The curriculum encourages a systems thinking approach, enabling students to foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning. By understanding and utilizing system dynamics, students will learn to promote innovation effectively. Upon completion, students will be equipped to assess the entire TM system holistically, tackling root causes of issues rather than merely addressing symptoms.

GMS5803

Research Methods in Translational Medicine (From Target to Treatment)

This course guides students through the process of transforming target discoveries into therapeutic leads. Students will explore cutting-edge experimental techniques and data analysis methods to identify trends and patterns vital for enhancing target development. The course will also cover clinical research development, focusing on evidence-based approaches to refine trial design, ensuring drug safety and efficacy while upholding ethical standards. Students will critically assess current research literature, identify knowledge gaps, formulate research questions, and design studies aimed at advancing healthcare solutions.

GMS5804

De-Risking Discoveries

This course explores the diversity of stakeholders in the translational medicine (TM) continuum, emphasizing the value of effective interactions while considering the risks each stakeholder faces. Students will gain insights into the roles, contributions, and perspectives of key stakeholders, fostering an integrated approach to translating innovations. Through discussions and stakeholder interactions, students will enhance their ability to collaborate across the TM ecosystem. Additionally, the course will equip students with skills in data visualization and storytelling, enabling them to present complex TM pathways effectively by combining data insights with compelling visuals.

GMS5805

Commercialization & Entrepreneurship in Translational Medicine

This course delves into the entrepreneurial aspects of discovery in translational medicine, focusing on commercialization. Students explore topics including intellectual property protection, industry collaborations, and funding strategies to launch ventures. The curriculum emphasizes maximizing data value while maintaining ethical practices. Students learn about drug discovery stages and the dynamics between pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and contract research organizations. Covering intellectual property management, academia-industry partnerships, market research, and steps to establish a biotech company. These insights equip students to ensure innovations address unmet healthcare needs and benefit society.
