Can Access Be Built into Pharmaceutical R&D? Evidence from Alternative Innovation Models for Global Health
Advances in drugs and vaccines hold great promise for reducing disease-related suffering, but the current R&D model often leads to high prices, limiting access and straining healthcare budgets. Critical areas like antibiotics and treatments for infectious diseases receive little investment due to low profitability. Can alternative approaches to R&D financing, organisation and regulation improve health outcomes?
Professor Moon will present findings from a five-year project on alternative innovation models, including case studies on pandemic preparedness, neglected diseases, rare diseases and antibiotics, while Professor John C.W. Lim will discuss regulatory frameworks in Singapore and ASEAN supporting pharmaceutical innovation.
