Dr. Sato’s interests are the interplay between viral and host proteins, and the molecular mechanisms of virus spillover. In 2010, he got Ph.D. in Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto
University. In 2018, he moved to Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo as a PI. His laboratory, “Systems Virology“, aims to comprehensively understand the raison d'etre of “virus”. Since 2020, he revealed multiple aspects of SARS-CoV-2 variants and was promoted to be a full professor in April 2022.
