Richard completed his PhD at the University of Otago, New Zealand, before joining St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, U.S. He is currently a member of the Department of Host–Microbe Interactions at St. Jude, where he leads a research program focused on influenza at the human–animal interface. He is the Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and the St. Jude Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Response. In these roles, he participates in One Health responses and preparedness for influenza virus threats.
