Implementation Science seeks to understand the processes and factors that are associated with successful integration of evidence-based interventions within a particular setting, with the aim of improving healthcare.

Around 50 healthcare professionals attended the 3-day “Implementation Science Workshop” organized by Programme in Health Services & Systems Research (HSSR) on 7-9 May 2019. It was a joint effort between Duke-NUS, Duke University, and SingHealth. Participants were immersed in the new field of Implementation Science through didactic lectures and small group discussions. Both basic topics (e.g. introduction, significance, frameworks and outcomes of Implementation Science) and practical topics (e.g. stakeholder engagement, sustainability and policy implications) have been well covered.

To help participants implement what they learnt in the workshop, they were asked to work on a project in which they were trying to implement an intervention or service before the workshop, which was discussed during the small group discussion. As a workshop follow-up, participants were offered the opportunity to be matched with a mentor in applying Implementation Science to their projects.
