CVR \ NBD Research Seminar: Developing Cell Based Therapy for Retinal Diseases (via Zoom)
Abstract:
There is no effective treatment for blindness caused by atrophic age-related macular degeneration. Cell replacement therapy is a potential approach. We have developed a novel retina specific laminin based method to generate photoreceptor progenitors from human pluripotent stem cells. Evidences of synaptic connectivity and improved functional retina response through electroretinogram were shown in animal models transplanted with these cells. These results may pave way for macular cell therapy.
