Program Description
This course delves into the entrepreneurial aspects of discovery in translational medicine, focusing on commercialization. Students explore topics including intellectual property protection, industry collaborations, and funding strategies to launch ventures. The curriculum emphasizes maximizing data value while maintaining ethical practices. Students learn about drug discovery stages and the dynamics between pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and contract research organizations. Covering intellectual property management, academia-industry partnerships, market research, and steps to establish a biotech company. These insights equip students to ensure innovations address unmet healthcare needs and benefit society.
Course Schedule:
This is a weekly course over 13 weeks spanning January to May 2026. Dates are to be confirmed.
Lessons will be conducted from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at Duke-NUS Medical School

Group Quizzes, Pitch Project Presentation
Course Project:
Students will create an investor-ready pitch based on a current professional project, applying course concepts like IP protection, market research, and funding strategy. Those without a project will work on a realistic life sciences case study. Guided by faculty and industry experts, students refine their ideas and delivery skills, culminating in a final pitch that demonstrates their ability to turn scientific or clinical innovations into viable commercial opportunities.
As part of the micro-credential initiative, you may choose to take this course alone if you do not wish to take the full Graduate Certificate program.
Course Fees
This course costs SGD5,400 before any subsidy. Eligible participants will be able to tap on the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) Funding Scheme*. All figures are in SGD.

Note
- Student Service Fee (SSF): Students are required to pay an additional SGD25.70 per semester. In the event that students do not take any courses that semester, they would not have to pay this fee.
- Please note that the Tuition Fee and Student Services Fee (SSF) are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- All requests for withdrawal must be received 6 weeks before the start of the workshop for the course. Late withdrawals will be subjected to payment of the FULL course fees. Any access to learning materials (online preparatory materials and workshop materials) will be considered as participation and no refunds will be allowed.
