10 April 2026, Duke-NUS Medical School
On 10th April 2026, donors, students, faculty and staff gathered for the Duke-NUS Celebratory Dinner – Beyond Giving, Inspire Impact. The event was shaped by stories, with heartfelt reflections from student and research gift recipients, alongside thoughtful sharing that brought to life how donor support shapes education and research journeys.
Amid a warm and welcoming setting, guests connected through meaningful conversations, reflecting on the school’s growth and the impact of philanthropy in shaping its journey.
The evening was further distinguished by the presence of Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment. Dr Puthucheary was formerly the Medical Director for Faculty Development at Duke-NUS where he led the development and refinement of TeamLEAD, an innovative team based learning methodology.
Prior to the dinner, a select group of donors went on a specially curated campus tour to the Immersive Learning Space and 3D Printing Lab. They experienced immersive medical education in action through interactive 3D digital dissections, virtual reality learning and consultations, and 3D printing, gaining a deeper understanding of how technology shapes Duke-NUS students’ learning journey.
Kicking off the dinner, was student emcee Johanan Chua from the Class of 2028. Johanan is also a Project Director for Project DOVE.
Shu Ting from Class of 2027 shared her life story and how Student Financial Aid made possible a medical education without financial burdens.
Neuroscientist Assoc Prof Shawn Je also gave an interesting peek into his growing up years. In his sharing, he shed light on what led him to pursue research and how the Khoo Bridge Funding Award helped make his work possible.
This video brings together students and researchers who found that turning point through bursaries, scholarships, and research funding. Thank you for opening doors, sparking ideas, and making all of this possible at Duke-NUS.
Through resilience, time, and the quiet generosity of donors, Thaqif and Shiying showed how perseverance, compassion, and student financial aid can quietly change lives.
Enabled by the Khoo Teck Puat Translational Research Fund, Duke-NUS scientists are better equipped to shift medicine toward earlier, more precise intervention and better outcomes for patients.
Our heartfelt thanks to donors who share our vision of transforming medicine and improving lives. Your generosity enables us to continue to nurture deserving students, and advance the discovery of new therapeutics and treatments.
