Staff Giving

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
– Winston Churchill

Being able to give is a privilege that encourages us to grow and be more than what we thought we could be. At Duke-NUS, we embrace a culture of giving. The annual staff giving event is one such opportunity to foster community among colleagues as we give towards a shared cause.

In September 2022, the Development team collaborated with the Staff Recreation Committee to organise the first in-person Giving & Community Day after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lunchtime event offered participants a chance to relive their childhood through old-school snacks and games.

Proceeds from the sale of game coupons and Refresh Boxes went to the beneficiary of the year Camp Simba - a joint community project by students of Duke-NUS and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Camp Simba aims to address the emotional needs of children whose family members are afflicted with cancer. The proceeds will help expand Camp Simba’s efforts in building a community where the children can draw support from one another.
Duke-NUS giving Refresh Box
This Refresh Box is a special collaboration between Duke-NUS and local volunteer group Heartwarmers which works with voluntary welfare organisations and community centres to reach out to the less fortunate. By purchasing these beverages from Heartwarmers, Duke-NUS supports them in their efforts to make a positive impact on the community.

The event also attracted some staff to sign up as recurring donors to continually support a cause within Duke-NUS that they are passionate about.
