Lessons Learnt from Starting a Biotech Spin-Off with No PhD, No Pharma Experience, and USD10,000
Synopsis
In 2014, Weijie co-founded PathoVax, a universal cervical cancer vaccine startup at the Johns Hopkins University, six months before he received his PhD and moving to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for his postdoctoral research. To date, PathoVax has secured almost US$10 million in non-dilutive grant funding and investment from angel investors to advance its scientific asset into human clinical trials, while assembling a world-class scientific and business advisory board.
In 2018, Weijie returned to Singapore and is now an Entrepreneur in Residence at Duke-NUS Medical School’s Centre for Technology and Development. In this talk, he will share his journey in taking academic discoveries out of the lab as a first-time entrepreneur with no PhD and industry experience, and answer any burning questions from researchers looking to commercialise their research.
Venue: Duke-NUS Medical School, Meeting Room 7C, Level 7
