The Centre for Technology and Development (CTeD) oversees and manages selected intellectual property (IP) generated by researchers and staff at Duke-NUS, and works to ensure optimal commercial outcomes for all Duke-NUS inventions. CTeD connects organisations, technologies and people to facilitate relationship development between all of its stakeholders, through activities such as IP strategy development, lab-based validation, project management, market analysis, and project review and brainstorming.

Senior Manager / Associate Director (Apply here)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish effective working relationships with scientists in Duke-NUS to thoroughly understand their research areas and priorities.
  • Facilitate the preparation of Project Plans for collaborative research agreements.
  • Review grant proposals, where relevant, to understand roles, responsibilities, desired outcomes and financial contributions of the parties.
  • Negotiate terms and prepare the required research collaboration agreements in line with NUS’ policies, and interact with NUS’ Legal Counsel where necessary.
  • Prepare confidentiality agreements, materials transfer agreements and any other kinds of agreements necessary to give effect to various kinds of interactions between researchers and third parties.
  • Provide leadership and direction in all of the above; ensure completion of all contract transactions in a timely manner, and in compliance with relevant operating procedures.
  • Oversee preparation of analytical reports on progress of the Centre’s key performance indicators and outcome.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s overall business direction and complete other ad-hoc tasks as and when requested.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Honours Degree in Biosciences and a Law degree.
  • MSc/PhD is not essential but would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in negotiating and drafting various legal agreements around IP, preferably in a research environment.
  • Strong interest in working within the context of a science and technology-rich environment.
  • Able to multi-task and work independently as well as in a team.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, with string organisational and communications skills.
  • Possess strong analytical ability with good problem solving skills, and able to deal with complex business and intra-organisational issues.

  • Develop and implement a system to keep track of all such contracts and to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor collaboration progress and assess outcomes so as to identify any requirements for follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to CTeD’s overall business direction and complete other ad-hoc tasks as and when requested.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Honours Degree in Biosciences.
  • MSc/PhD is not essential but would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in any one or more of the following – business development in a bioscience organisation, IP and/or contract law, bioscience research.
  • Strong interest in working within the context of a science and technology-rich environment.
  • Able to multi-task and work independently as well as in a team.

  • Possess strong analytical ability with good problem solving skills, and able to deal with complex business and intra-organisational issues.
