Regional Workshop on Multistate Life Table Method, Singapore

Conducted by Professor Yasuhiko Saito, Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan who specializes in demography and gerontology, this workshop offered great insights for those who are keen in population ageing and health issues in both developed and developing countries.

Using existing published life tables and prevalence of events, summary measures such as disability-free life expectancy and happy life expectancy can be computed. This can be done via cross-sectional survey data but there is a limitation in using this method. Through this workshop, participants are showed how the same events can be studied via incidence based method, that is multistate life table method or increment-decrement life table method.
