Considered as taboo, end of life issues are hardly discussed within the Malay community and in wider Singaporean society. However, as we age, planning for our departure is a healthy step in order to ensure that our loved ones are prepared to support us as we live out the final chapters of our lives.
CARE researchers, Dr Ad Maulod, Senior Research Fellow and Siti Hazirah, Research Associate were invited to be part of this community-based arts initiative to increase awareness on a culturally competent approach towards end of-ilfe.
This approach stresses on issues that are relevant to the community but also relatable on a wider scale, such as gender dynamics, wealth distribution (
faraid) and the importance of planning and communicating your wishes to your loved ones as part of the ageing process.
