Internship Position 1: THE SIGNS Study

Research Project: Transitions in Health, Employment, Social Engagement and Inter-Generational Transfers in Singapore Study (THE SIGNS Study) – III & IV 

Project Overview

THE SIGNS Study is a nationally-representative longitudinal study of older Singaporeans aged 60 years and above at baseline. It collects comprehensive data on the health and psychosocial wellbeing of older adults and tracks changes over time. Data from THE SIGNS Study aims to contribute to the formulation, development, and refinement of policies and the planning of services for older adults in Singapore. 

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the editing of THE SIGNS Study Wave 3b report.
  2. Support supervisor and study team in data analysis and drafting of manuscripts, presentations.
  3. Assist study team in the preparation for Wave 4, including questionnaire and showcard editing, translations and other administrative duties.
  4. Support the Centre’s education initiatives where required
  5. Assist in ad-hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Requirements

  1. Minimal commitment period is 10 weeks.
  2. Knowledge of data analysis programmes (e.g. Stata, R) is preferred but not essential.
  3. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Fluent in English AND Mandarin, or Malay, or Tamil.

Internship Position 2: TARGET and SAFE-TECH

Research Projects: Assessment of Fall Risk: Targeted Assessment and Recruitment of Geriatrics for Effective fall prevention Treatments (TARGET) & Steps to Avoid Falls in the Elderly- A TECHnology Enhanced Intervention (SAFE-TECH)

Project Overview

Both TARGET & SAFE-TECH are funded by National Research Foundation and in collaboration with ETH Zurich on early detection of health risks and prevention.

  1. The primary goal of TARGET is to segment the population into different fall and fracture risk levels using a novel risk assessment tool which assesses each individual’s neurological and functional ability.  By synergising novel wearable technology ZurichMOVE with the state-of-art machine/deep learning/statistical modelling approaches we will provide personalized assessment of fall risk in an ecologically valid manner.
  2. The primary goal of SAFE-TECH is to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of a technology-enhanced, multi-domain, multi-component falls prevention intervention among community dwelling older adults with an elevated fall risk. The novel health technologies, ZurichMOVE was used to detect individual falls risk factors, and identified risk factors were used to tailor the components of the intervention. SAFE-TECH is a tailored and progressive programme, which includes exercise and education components.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Phone call for quarterly & monthly follow-up for the studies
  2. Use statistical software (STATA) to perform basic data cleaning and generate descriptive statistics.
  3. Support the Centre’s education initiatives where required.
  4. Assist in ad-hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Requirements

  1. Minimal commitment period is 10 weeks.
  2. Previous experience in conducting interviews with older persons desirable but not necessary.
  3. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Basic knowledge of statistical software is preferred.
  5. Fluent in English, or Mandarin, or Malay, or Tamil.

Project Overview

The Centre for Ageing Research & Education (CARE) is an academic research centre that conducts research on the social and medical determinants of successful ageing and actively engages with government and industry partners to identify needs and strategies to enhance the experience of ageing in Singapore.

In addition to our existing social media platforms, CARE is preparing to launch our official LinkedIn presence to strengthen engagement with the academic and professional community. We are seeking a driven and creative intern to support the planning, content creation, and ongoing management of our platforms. 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Communicate CARE’s research projects and findings through clear, engaging posts
  2. Develop short-form content (e.g., research highlights, key insights, quick explainers)
  3. Maintain a structured social media content calendar
  4. Monitor engagement trends and refine content to strengthen visibility and professional reach

 

Requirements

  1. Minimal commitment period is 3 months
  2. Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in communications, media, marketing or a related field
  3. Possess photography and videography skills
  4. Proficiency in graphic design and video editing (e.g. Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro)
  5. Detail-oriented and proactive
  6. Support the Centre’s education initiatives where required
  7. Assist in ad-hoc duties as assigned by the supervisor
