Centre for Global Allied Health

Enabling global contributions from allied health professionals

According to the World Health Organization, many countries in Southeast Asia have fewer than 10 skilled rehabilitation professionals per million people, leaving critical needs unmet. With a projected global shortfall of 11 million healthcare workers by 2030, the demand for Allied Health expertise has never been more urgent.

Demand for allied health expertise has never been greater. Ageing populations, rising chronic diseases, and rapid technological change are reshaping healthcare across the region. At the same time, allied health professionals are seeking new opportunities to collaborate globally, contribute to equity in health, and grow their expertise.

Impact in action

Our work builds on a strong history of successful collaborations, including:

  • Occupational Therapy for Children with Special Needs (Jakarta, 2019–2025): trained 103 practitioners from 29 organisations and developed 13 Master Trainers.
  • Physiotherapy Bachelor's Programme Upgrade (Phnom Penh, 2012–2019): trained 207 faculty members & physiotherapists and developed 22 Master Trainers.
  • Physiotherapy Education Upgrade Programme (Vientiane, 2016 - 2019): trained 419 faculty members, physiotherapists, rehabilitation and ICU nurses, orthopaedic doctors, and students and 25 Master Trainers identified.
