a) Why is there a need for the 5-day intensive face-to-face workshop?
This is in alignment to the principal pedagogy used in Duke-NUS, successfully applied for graduate medical students and adapted to adult professional learning. Students acquire the baseline knowledge using the online pre-read materials at their own pace. The workshop will include a few lectures that further expound on selected principles with real-life examples and insights from the experts. However, the main learning experience comes from the practical sessions, where students can expect to work on case examples and scenarios that reflect the actual environment. The use of team-based learning during these sessions will facilitate experiential learning through engaging different perspectives, reflecting solutions as a group, and interacting with the experts. The workshop presents a valuable opportunity to learn from peers and experts in an optimized learning environment.
b) How are we assessed during the module and for fulfilling the requirements of the Graduate Certificate Programme?
Assessments will be carried out throughout all the activities of the module. Graded quizzes will be incorporated into the pre-read materials uploaded onto the online Learning Management System. Scores for individual and group tests during the 5-day workshop will also be counted towards the final grade. The majority of the grading exercise will be based on the quality of the group presentations during the workshop, assessing the ability to apply the knowledge and exhibit deeper understanding of the taught concepts.
c) I cannot guarantee my availability for all the modules in the 2 years. How long can I delay completing the course?
Modular credits accumulated during the course are valid for 5 years from the date of enrolment into the programme.
d) If I am unwell or unable to complete full 5-day workshop due to unforeseen, urgent situations, what are the solutions available?
For medical conditions or in the case of unforeseen urgent circumstances, please inform our staff as soon as possible and they will be able to advise you on the course of action. However please note that refunds are usually not possible.
e) If I fail the module, am I required to re-take the module?
If you are unable to complete or pass a module, you are allowed to re-take the module once. You may also choose to take a different module if applicable within the Graduate Certificate course. However, these will be subject to the usual tuition fees per module.
