Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Recognise patients who have palliative care needs and know when to refer to specialist palliative care.
- Recognise your role in generalist palliative care.
- Explain basic principles of management of pain and common symptoms in surgical care of seriously ill patients.
- Communicate with patients and their families using the Serious Illness Conversation Guide to elicit patients' values and preferences.
- Use the “best-case and worst-case scenario” tool for communicating treatment / care options.
- Apply ethical principles using the Jonsen's Four-Box Approach to guide complex decision making.
Learners will access materials such as videos, animated presentations, readings, assessments on the Learning Management System (LMS) at their own pace and time.
