    The Lien Centre for Palliative Care

     

    The Lien Centre for Palliative Care (LCPC) was established in December 2008 as an academic Centre within Duke-NUS, in collaboration with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and the Singapore Health Services Group (SingHealth).

    LCPC Vision
    To be the leading academic centre delivering and facilitating palliative care research and education in the region.


    LCPC Mission
    To implement and incubate high quality research and education projects that address the physical, psychological, and social needs of those affected by a life limiting illness.

    Advance care planning – let's change the way we think about it

    In this commentary, Dr Chetna Malhotra points to the hot-cold empathy gap to show us that patients change their goals and preferences throughout their illness journey. Instead of pursuing what we might call a "moving target" of goal-concordant care, Dr Chetna Malhotra proposes three new objectives and metrics to ensure ACP's effectiveness.

    Patient participation minimizes poor outcomes

    Being involved in decision making less than desired was associated with poorer quality of physician communication and care coordination compared with being involved in decisions at a desired level.

    Advance Care Planning supports patients and caregivers

    This study reviews several advance care planning studies and concludes that ACP improves patient-caregiver relationships, bereavement outcomes and patient satisfaction with some evidence of benefit on caregiver outcomes.
