1. Understand the integration of palliative care principles and practice in seriously ill surgical patients.
2. Explain basic management of pain and common symptoms in care of seriously ill surgical patients.
3. Use the Serious Illness Guide to elicit patients’ understanding, values and goals.
4. Apply the “best-case and worst-case scenario” communication tool for discussing surgical treatment options
5. Apply ethical principles using the Jonsen’s Four-Box Approach to guide complex decision making
   

Learners will access materials such as videos, animated presentations, readings, assessments on the Learning Management System (LMS) at their own pace and time.

Learners have access to the materials for one month upon successful registration.

The online self-paced learning is supplemented by an online forum that will address any questions and comments at the end of the course.

Learners who completed SPLICES Online are eligible to sign up for the 0.5 day Face-to-Face SPLICES Workshop in which communication skills and ethical principles in decision making are applied in role play, case studies and panel discussion. Accreditation
