Bio
Clin Assoc Prof Adrian Chiow is the current Chief of Surgery and a Senior Consultant of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgery with the Department of Surgery at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He is also a Visiting Consultant with the Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary and Transplantation at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). His sub-specialty interest is in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) HPB Surgery.
Clin Assoc Prof Chiow graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne (Australia)(Hons) in 2003 and completed his training in General Surgery at SingHealth and the Eastern Health Alliance (EHA) with Specialist Accreditation Board certification in 2012. He subsequently commenced his specialist HPB surgery training at CGH before undergoing further sub-specialty clinical training under the Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) award in 2013 for advanced and minimally invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) HPB Surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Since returning from fellowship, he started the Advanced Laparoscopic HPB service in 2014 and the Robotic HPB program in 2016 in CGH.
Clin Assoc Prof Chiow is actively involved in undergraduate teaching as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School, and holds concurrent appointments as an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
Clin Assoc Prof Chiow's research interests are in improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for patients undergoing minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) HPB surgery (MIS). He holds grants investigating technical aspects of MIS HPB surgery and has published articles in peer reviewed journals in this area. He also serves as a reviewer and is on the editorial board of local and international journals. He has been invited as faculty for regional and international meetings to share his experience with MIS HPB surgery, and as a proctor for local and regional workshops in MIS HPB surgery.
Nationally, Clin Assoc Prof Chiow serves as the secretary of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (HPBA) Singapore, and is currently a member of the outreach committee of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA).
