ABOUT THE LECTUREIn the late 1990s an idea took hold to create a research group that would bring a multidisciplinary group of researchers to key questions in surgical policy and practice. The idea became a reality in 2002 with the creation of the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. With a clear vision to improve patient outcomes, SOuRCe brought together researchers in health economics, epidemiology, medical psychology, biostatistics and clinical practice and applied an evidence-based, patient centred approach to health services research. In this seminar I will present an exposition of how that happened and highlight some of the research findings relating to patient preferences and the cost effectiveness of surgical practice.
