Signature Seminar Series: HFpEF: Metabolism and Meta-inflammation

ABOUT THE LECTURE
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), is expanding rapidly in incidence and prevalence around the world. Sadly, we have very limited evidence-based therapies for HFpEF. In fact, it has been said that HFpEF is the single greatest unmet need in cardiovascular medicine. The world is also facing alarming increases in obesity and hypertension, culminating in metabolic stress on the heart and other organs. Recent work has linked these developments in a process termed meta-inflammation, metabolism - related inflammation. We will discuss recently uncovered mechanistic links between HFpEF, metabolism, and meta-inflammation.

Professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Biology

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Hill is a cardiologist-scientist whose research focuses on molecular mechanisms of remodeling in the disease-stressed myocardium. In 2002, he moved to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center to assume the role of Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Harry S. Moss Heart Center. Dr. Hill is the current Editor-in-Chief of Circulation, a flagship journal for the American Heart Association.  Dr. Hill’s research group strives to decipher mechanisms of structural, functional, metabolic, and electrical remodeling in heart disease with an eye toward therapeutic intervention.
