Bio
Dr Lee Phong Ching is a Senior Consultant Endocrinologist at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). In 2016, he spent a year-long clinical fellowship at the Baker IDI Institute in Melbourne with a focus on clinical obesity research and management. His area of clinical interest is in obesity and its clinical, psychological and social impact on health and has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals on these areas. His research on bariatric surgery has translated to several clinical initiatives including centile charts for monitoring of weight loss after surgery and collaboration with international bariatric centres on the development of a bariatric weight trajectory prediction calculator.
He is the Director of the SGH Obesity Centre since June 2022 and has led several initiatives at the multidisciplinary centre including the videoconsultation service and the collaborative prescribing service involving senior pharmacists and advanced practice nurses. During his directorship, he has facilitated and mentored several pilot clinical research initiatives at the Obesity Centre such as the SHAWS computer adaptive testing patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) instrument, 3D-printed bariatric supplements, and the use of high dose oral semaglutide as an adjunct to weight loss after endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. As a SGH Workplace Health Committee member, he has also initiated qualitative interviews of SGH staff to identify facilitators and barriers to behaviour change, in an effort to design a healthier workplace.
