Signature Seminar Series: Overview of radiation oncology research and initiatives at Duke in North Carolina

ABOUT THE LECTURE:

The presentation will provide an overview of some of the research programs and initiatives happening in the department of radiation oncology at the Duke University School of Medicine. It will include recent work on glioblastoma in the Sulman lab identifying novel targets of radiation sensitisation and identifying radiation resistant populations within tumors. It will also describe advancements by research faculty within the department, including novel high output radiation technologies. In addition, it will include some of the new department initiatives aimed at improving the treatment and care we provide our patients.

Erik Sulman, M.D., Ph.D. is Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Professor of Neurosurgery at Duke University School of Medicine. He is also currently the Interim Executive Director of the Duke Cancer Institute. In addition, he is an internationally-recognised physician-scientist studying the biology of malignant brain tumors. Prior to Duke, he held leadership roles at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
