Bio

Calvin Chin is a clinician-scientist specializing in echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Currently, he serves as Senior Consultant at the National Heart Centre Singapore and holds key leadership roles as Director of CMR, Director of the NHCS Biobank, and Deputy Director of the National Heart Research Institute of Singapore.

His medical training was completed at Loma Linda University, California, followed by cardiology training at the National Heart Centre Singapore. Academic advancement has been supported by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC), including a Master of Clinical Investigation from the University of Singapore and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh.

Calvin's research focuses on cardiac remodeling and mechanistic drivers of heart muscle disease, integrating state-of-the-art imaging and biochemical markers. Key areas include acquired and inherited cardiomyopathies, aortic stenosis, and cardiometabolic heart disease. Among notable innovations is the development of exercise stress CMR, which uses a supine ergometer to distinguish physiologic exercise-induced remodeling from early dilated cardiomyopathy, exemplifying translational application of advanced imaging technologies.

Recognized nationally and internationally for contributions to cardiovascular science, awards include the NMRC Transition Award (2015), Clinician Scientist Award (Investigator, 2018 and 2023), American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Award (2015), British Heart Valve Society Young Investigator Award (2015), American Heart Association Young Investigator Award (2018), and the Distinguished Researcher Award from SingHealth (2022).

With over a decade of leadership in clinical research and translational imaging, Calvin continues to drive innovations that bridge mechanistic science and patient care, mentoring the next generation of clinician-scientists while advancing the field of cardiovascular medicine.
