Research started in 1997, research fellow at the Whittington Hospital for 2 years working on insulin resistance and salt sensitivity. This was followed by a pause in research in order to complete clinical training in Nephrology. Once in clinical post in SGH, participated in pharma trials and a few clinicians initiated studies. Current interest is in the realm of my own subspecialty of peritoneal dialysis, focusing on quality of life for peritoneal dialysis patients and device research in collaboration with industry working on an automated wearable artificial kidney (AWAK) since 2009. This started with a proof-of-concept idea to animal model studies and completion of phase one first-in-human studies in 2015. Tis study was supported by nMRC-IAF grant. The study device was designated " breakthrough device "by FDA. A second phase study on improved version of the device Viva Kompact (formerly AWAK) was completed in 2024. The Pandemic though has delayed clinical research, we have worked with industry to develop AI on CKD prediction and cloud-based app " WeKare" to link with the device for real time monitoring and AI for decision support.
