Bio
Prof Peter Lim completed postgraduate training at the Northwestern University Medical School, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and is Board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. Dr Lim was founding Head of Department, Rehabilitation Medicine at Singapore General Hospital, following which he was Director of the Postgraduate Medical Institute, SGH, and subsequently Group Chief Risk Officer for SingHealth.
Dr Lim has been involved for many years with rehabilitation physician training in the USA, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries in the Asian region. He initiated development of a national comprehensive trauma rehabilitation program for Myanmar, and led planning and training for the Rehabilitation Centre at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Sri Lanka. He has served on expert panels for the World Health Organization, Geneva including the development group for Package of Rehabilitation Interventions (Stroke) 2019-22, and the technical working group for Covid-19 Rehabilitation Data Collection 2020.
Dr Lim was founding President of the Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (Singapore), Chairman of the Chapter of Rehabilitation Physicians, Singapore, President of the ASEAN Rehabilitation Medicine Association, and Secretary of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. He is an associate editor of the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and on the international advisory boards of the Annals of Rehabilitation Medicine, Turkish Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and ASEAN Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Dr Lim recently returned to Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas where he is a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, after more than two decades in Singapore. His current activities include patient care, teaching, and mentoring, but global health remains a passion. He maintains a faculty appointment with the SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute, and communication with PM&R leaders and former trainees across the world.
