Bio
Associate Professor Tang is Senior Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, who had been practising in this field for the last 22 years. He graduated from NUS in 1987, obtained his higher degree specialist training fellowship in General Surgery in 1993 and had his overseas HMDP fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he had extensive training in the diagnosis, assessment and management of pelvic floor disorders and colorectal cancer. He is conversant with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery and recurrent cancer surgery. He is mentor to many of the younger surgeons, who had been trained in the department.
A/Prof Tang has authored more than 100 articles and published several chapters in colorectal surgery textbooks. He continues to have a strong passion for clinical research and inspires many young colorectal surgeons to do the same. A/Prof Tang has co-organised and chaired multiple local and international training workshops and conferences over the years and has been regularly invited to speak in the field around the region. He had been Director of the Singapore Polyposis Registry, a MOH-sanctioned registry that compiles a database of genetic and hereditary colorectal cancer patients. The registry actively conducts programmes that follow up on family members, who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancers. He has recently established the Colorectal Cancer Support Group for cancer survivors. A/Prof Tang is a core faculty of the General Surgery Residency and is a member of the National Steering Committee for Colorectal Cancer Screening. He actively participates in various voluntary missions providing care and relief overseas.
