Dr. Hong-Wen Tang obtained his B.S. from National Tsing Hua University and received M.S. and Ph.D. from the Institute of Biochemistry at National Taiwan University. After mandatory military service, he accepted a position as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Norbert Perrimon’s laboratory in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. He subsequently joined Duke-NUS Medical School as a Principal Investigator.

Dr Tang’s lab scientific focus is to understand how signaling networks rewire RNA metabolism to alter physiological functions during the process of aging and tumorigenesis. His lab utilizes unique cross-species approach using the Drosophila, mouse and mammalian cells as model systems, coupled with interdisciplinary approach incorporating genetics, biochemistry, cell biology and systems biology, to identify new evolutionary conserved mechanisms underlying human diseases. His lab aims to contribute insights towards the biology of aging as well as tumorigenesis, and provide new therapeutic strategies targeting cancer and mitigating the effects of aging.

Dr Tang’s laboratory mainly focuses on:

• Regulation of transcriptome and RNA epitranscriptome by oncogenic signaling networks
• Regulation of transcriptome and RNA epitranscriptome during aging
• Exploring the role of autophagy during aging and tumorigenesis
• Characterizing the impact of aging and cancer cachexia on stem cell self-renewal and differentiation
