Bio

I am Director of Urologic Oncology and Senior Consultant in the Department of Urology, Singapore General Hospital. I am also Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. I currently lead the Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance and Focal Therapy program and have obtained an NMRC-NIG grant to perform the first phase 2 trial of Focal Cryotherapy for prostate cancer in Singapore. I also currently hold an NMRC Transition Award (2021) to further develop this cohort of patients and discern molecular biomarkers to better select patients for Focal Therapy. I am actively involved in the international Focal Therapy Society as a Member of the Board of Directors and Secretary of its Executive Committee. I am also the immediate past Chairman of the Website and Social Media Committee.

I have a broad background in urologic surgery, having graduated from Advanced Specialist Training in Urology at the Singapore General Hospital with the College of Surgeons Gold Medal in 2014. Concurrently, I obtained a Master of Clinical Investigation at the National University of Singapore between 2012 and 2014. I subsequently embarked on a 2-year Society of Urologic Oncology matched-fellowship at Duke University, North Carolina, from 2015 - 2016 with a focus on complex resections of genitourinary (GU) cancers and cancer research. During my fellowship, under the mentorship of Prof Thomas J. Polascik, I further developed my interest in the appropriate stratification of prostate cancer to treatment, observation, or focal therapy that, in selected patients, can deliver oncological cure while avoiding radical intervention, thereby preserving quality of life. I studied prostate cancer patients on active surveillance, advanced imaging, fusion targeted biopsy and prostate focal cryotherapy leading to several high impact factor publications. I lead and collaborate on several international multi-center projects; notably the international Focal Therapy Society Registry, and I am also the Principal Investigator for ProAMFocal - a prospective observational Asian multi-center Focal Therapy study. I have led and participated in multiple expert consensus on important topics in the field of Focal Therapy for Prostate Cancer. I am also the Principal Investigator in an upcoming genome-guided trial for better selection for patients in Focal Therapy. These activities support my aim to cure prostate cancer, while minimising side effects in a modern paradigm for prostate cancer active surveillance and Focal Therapy.
