Congratulations to Dr Robert Lefkowitz - Nobel Prize in Chemistry
It’s a momentous time for Duke Medicine and a source of pride for our school, as our colleague and friend, Dr. Robert Lefkowitz, is named as a co-recipient of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, with Dr. Brian K. Kobilka. Their research on G-protein-coupled receptors has transformed our understanding of how these receptors work. Many of the drugs that we routinely use in medicine target these receptors.
Dr. Lefkowitz is a cardiologist, and a James B. Duke Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Pathology, and Biochemistry at Duke Medicine. Dr. Kobilka was a research cardiology fellow and faculty at Duke before he moved to Stanford.
Heartiest congratulations!
