Exposure to sunlight may prevent myopia
The pervasiveness of severe myopia in Asia has more than doubled in the past 20 years and myopia rates have reached epidemic magnitudes in several parts of Asia. The prevalence of myopia in Singapore is among the highest in the world. Against this backdrop, Dean Ranga Krishnan explains why school children should spend more time outdoors, as clinical research indicates an association between an increased exposure to sunlight and reduced rates of myopia.
