GMS1000: The Duke-NUS Pre-Med Course

The Duke-NUS Pre-Med Course is a unique opportunity for undergraduates to experience the instructional method used in the MD programme at Duke-NUS. This course brings together students from diverse STEAM disciplines and uses the TeamLEAD (Team-Based Learning) method of teaching. Taught by Duke-NUS postdoctoral fellows, the course introduces students to the major scientific themes represented by the Signature Research Programmes at Duke-NUS.

All students who apply to read the GMS1000 course will undergo a selection process. The course helps students develop intellectual curiosity, knowledge and skills needed to critically examine biomedical research. In addition, students will get to interact with faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, medical students and research staff at Duke-NUS.

For NUS students, GMS1000 carries 4 units, and is classified as an Unrestricted Elective Course.

The course follows the NUS academic calendar and has 12 sessions. Each session lasts 2 hours and will be conducted at Duke-NUS (Outram Campus). Students will have to factor in the duration of travel when they plan their schedule to read this course.
