Thermogels for Biomedical Applications: Advancements in Thermogelling Polyurethane Technology

Join us as we explore thermogels for biomedical applications and their efficiency in drug delivery!

At our next Research Grand Rounds on 19 May 202112.30pm to 1.30pmProf Loh Xian Jun, Executive Director, Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR, will present his three-component PEG-PPG-PCL thermogelling polyurethane technology as a unique platform for biomedical applications, with effects of anti-melanoma and growth inhibition of hepatocellular carcinoma. He will also share his insights on various drug transportation pathways and the unprecedented use of thermogels in vitreoretinal surgeries.

Prof Loh has been recognised as a pioneer and global expert in the field of biodegradable thermogels, with experience in successful product commercialisation ranging from skin care to household care products. In 2019 and 2020, he was honoured as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics.

Facilitating our Q&A session is Prof Leopold Schmetterer, Scientific Director and Head, Ocular Imaging, Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI); and Professor, Department of Ophthalmology and Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is currently leading a team of researchers in developing ocular and functional imaging systems in the SERI-NTU Advanced Ocular Engineering (STANCE) programme.
