LinkedIn Clinic

With LinkedIn playing an increasingly central role in professional networking and job searching, having a compelling online presence is crucial. To support early-career researchers in showcasing their skills and connecting with new opportunities, CCR hosted a dynamic LinkedIn Workshop.
The session was facilitated by three LinkedIn content and safety experts: Lalita Dhanvada Iruvanti (Team Manager and Site Lead), Sumi Yang (Lead, Content Enforcement), and Friz Almanzo (Senior Content Analyst). Drawing from their deep knowledge of platform safety, visibility strategies, and user behaviour, the facilitators guided participants through key elements of crafting a standout LinkedIn profile.
The session covered best practices for improving profile aesthetics, tailoring content for personal branding, leveraging LinkedIn Premium features and AI tools, and optimising visibility for recruiters. The workshop also included a hands-on component where participants received personalised feedback and coaching.
Key takeaways:
Your profile is your digital first impression
- Ensure your photo is professional, authentic and use your headline and summary to clearly communicate your value and expertise.
LinkedIn is not a resume; it’s your story
- Go beyond job titles. Highlight volunteer experience, causes, accomplishments, and your unique strengths that differentiate you.
Personal branding matters
- Build your profile strategically with keywords, curated skills, and a clear narrative that aligns with your career goals.
Networking starts with connection
- Be proactive in reaching out to second-level connections. Personalised connection requests are more impactful than generic invites.
Engagement builds visibility
- Reacting to, commenting on, and sharing relevant content increases your profile’s reach and positions you as an active professional in your field.
Use AI and LinkedIn Learning to upskill
- Take advantage of tools that help draft headlines, write summaries, and suggest courses to build both soft and domain-specific skills.
Stay safe and intentional
- Regularly review your profile settings to control what’s visible, who can contact you, and how your data is used.
The workshop wrapped up with an energising group coaching session, giving participants a chance to apply what they learned with real-time feedback.
